Raw sandstone slabs and large sandstone sheets are usually purchased to produce customised capping, curbed capping, specific width capping, different format stepping stones or break them up to form crazy paving. Some people make pier-capping on top columns or piers. People can use these sandstone slabs as paving or steps. This is a multi-functional sandstone product; something to make to a bespoke size. These products require a stonemason or a landscaping installer.
A full-size sheet can weigh up to 250 kgs.
Sandstone installers will purchase to make their own bespoke products. Hence these products will usually be specified by the sandstone installer. ‘I can just make this out of a slab or a sheet of sandstone’, they will say. Buying these sandstone slabs or sheets is like buying a piece of plywood from Bunnings and cutting and shaping it to what you need.
