Gosford Quarries: Sustainability in Eco-Friendly & Green Building with Sandstone
Sustainable Choices for a Greener Future: Why EPDs Matter in Landscaping and Building
At Gosford Quarries, we’re all about making sustainable choices easy for you – because we believe that building and landscaping with green materials shouldn’t just be an option but the way forward. That’s why we’re proud to offer sandstone, one of the most sustainable, eco-friendly materials you can choose for your projects. But what makes a product genuinely sustainable?
One of the best ways to evaluate a product’s environmental impact is through an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD Australasia), and here’s why it matters.

What Exactly is an EPD?
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is like a report card for a product’s entire life cycle, from start to finish. It details everything: how a product is made, the resources it uses, the environmental impact it has during its life, and what happens when it’s no longer in use. Think of it as a transparent way to understand the full story of the product you’re using.
With EPDs, you get clear, factual information to make smarter, greener choices when selecting materials for your landscape or building projects.
Why Should You Care About EPDs?
As consumers and businesses become more eco-conscious, knowing the environmental footprint of our materials is crucial.
An EPD helps you understand how sustainable a product is by breaking down its impact in different stages:
- Raw Materials Extraction: How is the material sourced? Is it done responsibly? For sandstone, we’re proud to say we work with local, natural resources that are responsibly harvested.
- Manufacturing: What’s the environmental cost of processing the material? At Gosford Quarries, we focus on minimising energy use, waste, and water consumption during manufacturing.
- Transportation: How far does the product travel to get to you? We strive to minimise transport emissions by sourcing locally.
- Use and Maintenance: Is the material long-lasting, low-maintenance, and efficient throughout its life? Sandstone is durable, requires minimal upkeep, and withstands the test of time.
- End-of-Life: Can the material be recycled or reused? Sandstone is 100% recyclable, making it an excellent choice for sustainable landscaping.
By reading an EPD, you get all the details on a product’s sustainability journey, including essential metrics like carbon emissions, water usage, and energy consumption. It’s transparency at its best.

EPD Standards and Certification
EPDs aren’t just a label – they follow internationally recognised standards like ISO 14025, ensuring the data you’re getting is accurate and reliable. Third-party verification is often part of the process, so you know you’re working with credible information.
- ISO 14025: This standard provides the framework for creating an EPD, ensuring solid data back the product’s environmental claims.
- Product Category Rules (PCRs): PCRs are specific rules that outline how to assess and report the environmental impact of products within a particular category (e.g., construction materials, electronics, etc.).

Why EPDs Are Key for the Future
As we face the challenges of climate change and environmental degradation, it’s more important than ever to make responsible choices. With an EPD, you’re armed with the knowledge to select products that align with your sustainability goals. Whether you’re a homeowner, landscaper, or builder, EPDs give you the confidence to choose materials that reduce environmental impact, like our beautiful, sustainable sandstone.
At Gosford Quarries, we’re committed to offering products that are not only stunning but also help build a greener, more sustainable future. So, as you plan your next landscaping or building project, consider the long-term impact – and choose products that support your vision and the planet.
Here’s to a greener tomorrow, one stone at a time! 🌿

Gosford Quarries’ Sandstone
Gosford Quarries’ sandstone significantly constructed the Emirates Wolgan Valley Resort and Spa, Australia’s premier luxury and experience-based resort. The resort, which opened in 2009, extensively utilised sandstone in its design to harmonise with the natural surroundings. The buildings and interiors feature local sandstone, complementing the on-site timber and a colour palette derived from the landscape.
The Sarkis Bros., associated with Gosford Quarries, assembled a team of master craftsmen to bring the vision to life, delivering the project on time, within budget, and with incredible detail. George Sarkis took personal ownership of the project, ensuring it remained one of their proudest achievements.
This collaboration highlights Gosford Quarries’ commitment to quality and sustainability, providing materials that enhance the aesthetic appeal of luxury developments while respecting the environment.
Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley’s official website is https://www.oneandonlyresorts.com/wolgan-valley. However, sadly, as of June 2023, the resort has been indefinitely closed due to ongoing challenges with road access.
